Indian Creek is a true world class destination. Many believe it’s one of the purest crack climbing venues out there. We think the desert also offers something uniquely special. A connection and grounding that makes this place more than just climbing.
Together, these aspects make the Creek & Crack Weekend, a must!
See for yourself on this two-day crack climbing campout, spent in the Utah desert 🌵 🏜.
Our Femmes and Thems Crack Weekend is the perfect way to work on crack climbing skills, celebrate being in the desert with a fantastic community, cook over the fire, and learn from some of the best desert climbers out there!

Pre-Trip call
Guides and guests will connect with a video call to discuss gear selection for the weekend, meet each other, talk objectives for the trip, and answer any lingering questions.
DAY 1
Meet, climb, and develop new skills!
This day will have an educational feel— our team will focus on crack movement based on the size cracks the group is interested in. Hand Cracks, Wide Cracks, Thin Fingers; get excited!!
After the climbing day is over, we will head to camp. We usually stay at Hamburger Rock Campground.
The goal for the evening is connection, games, good food cooked over the fire, stargazing, and sleep!.
DAY 2
The group will head to a new climbing venue and continue building confidence in the art of crack climbing. More importantly, we’ll continue to explore a beautiful place, with cool people.
Technical Experience
Guests should have experience lead and top-rope belaying.
Fitness
Moderate physical climbing fitness is strongly recommended. Climbing 5.10-5.11 on top rope in the gym or 5.9’s outside is an ideal base level of fitness. Indian Creek has mostly vertical crack climbing and can feel like an intensely physical pursuit until those techniques are honed in. Climbers should be able to hike and climb for approximately 6-8 hours while carrying a medium sized crag pack.

Smile focuses on small groups and ratios that meet/exceed the professional standards of mountain guiding. This weekend has a 4:1 ratio, with up to eight guests and two guides.

Probably, Yes! Our Creek & Crack weekend best serves climbers with intermediate climbing experience, however route selection is tailored to the group. Crack climbing is physical making proper expectations around challenging climbing a must! Climbs range from 5.8 to 5.11.

Yes, we provide the following gear at no charge for our alpine weekend. Helmet, harness, shoes, tent, and group cooking gear. Please note- we may be able to supplement other gear needs so please make your reservations early and email meg@smilemountainguides.com with personal gear requests.

We camp at Hamburger Rock Campground. This zone is flat for camping comfortably in a tent or car and within walking distance of an outhouse. The campground has a built in grill/fire ring for cooking dinners and late night hangs.
There is minimal cell service in Indian Creek.

AIR TRAVEL
There are regular flights to Salt Lake City, Denver, and Grand Junction. Two flights arrive in Moab from Salt Lake City, UT on Delta/Skywest Moab Airport.
We suggest making your reservation as soon as possible as these flights fill up quickly.
If flights are sold out, your options include flying into Grand Junction- GJ Airport, Salt Lake City- SLC Airport, or Denver- DIA Airport and renting a car.
Grand Junction is the closest option, just two hours away. Salt Lake City is next at four hours and Denver is five and a half hours drive from Moab.
Once in Moab, you have another 1.5 hr drive to Indian Creek. Monticello is your closest town spot with some amenities and a quick stop before heading into the Bear Ears National Monument Basin.
You are expected to provide your own travel to Indian Creek for this weekend.
